Pioneer Day is coming up! The next due date for materials is this Wednesday. Please send $5 (if you haven't already), a pillowcase, a tin can and a brown paper grocery bag (I have a lot of bags here if you need one thanks to the Mosessos!) Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to chaperone on the field trip! If you sent in the paper that said you'd be willing to volunteer you can sign up for your station HERE! Word Study - Last list coming home today! Students will work with the words to sort by syllables and region. Writing - We will be sending the letters the kids wrote to our representatives. Math - Students will be creating math games to help review the math concepts from the year. Reading - Kids will practice and perform poetry for each other. Social Studies - The Government quiz is this Wednesday. Then we will be studying pioneer life to prepare for Pioneer Day! Science - Soil! Students will learn about the layers and types of soil.

Today was the last day to check out library books. All library books are due back to the Media Center by June 2. Field Day is June 2 in the afternoon. Students will wear their Fund Run shirts (if appropriate for the weather) and please bring a water bottle labeled with their name. If you're able to volunteer to run a game you can email Mr. Curtis here [email protected]. Pioneer Day is June 12 all day! Field Trip Permission Slips are due next Wednesday 5/31. Other supplies are requested by June 7th and also June 12. Please check HERE for the list of supplies. Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study - This week is the last week for regular words. The next two weeks will be spelling lists of the names of the 50 states (25 each week). Writing - We are finishing up our literary essays this week and will celebrate outside on Thursday! Math - This week students are finishing the geometry unit. They will learn about quadrilaterals and lines of symmetry. The Unit 8 test will be next Wednesday. Reading - This week students are finishing their historical fiction book clubs. We have a bunch of history enthusiasts in our class and I've received many questions about our history. Please embrace this curiosity by taking a trip to the library to get some nonfiction books or by supervising some research on the internet! Kidrex.org is a great kid-friendly search engine. Social Studies - We are wrapping up the West Region this week with a test on Friday. Scrapbooks will be due on Friday as well. Students have been planning our class trip ;) to Hawaii. We will be having a Luau on Wednesday to celebrate the end of our tour of the United States! Science - We will begin to study the Earth's surface and how it changes. Good afternoon! We had a wonderful field trip to Oakland University! Please take a look at some pictures below! The Mother's Day Picnic is Monday at 12:15. We'll meet in our classroom and head out front on the lawn for the picnic. We'll provide dessert and you can bring a blanket to sit on and a lunch! On those days we'll have our normal special but we'll have it at 1:20-2:10 instead of our regular morning time. Thank you for all the snack contributions! Please help your child get a good night's sleep each night and a healthy breakfast in the morning! We will continue to have reading and social studies in the afternoon. Students are reading historical fiction books in book clubs. They'll meet with their club to discuss questions about their books. We'll be studying the Southwest region in social studies.

We have a few updates and dates for you to be aware of. Tomorrow, April 18th at 6:30 is Paint Creek's Fine Art Night. All students will have work displayed and there are many activities to participate in. There is a blood drive at Paint Creek on Wednesday. You can drop in to donate blood or contact Kara Hill at 248.814.1724. Thursday at 7:35 is Donuts with Dad. Registration is required and ends tomorrow! Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study - New lists coming home today, tests on Friday Writing - We are getting started with writing literary essays. Their first literary essay will be about a character from a short story they've read. Mon – Thought Prompts Tues – Push your Thinking Wed – Testing a Thesis Thurs – Types of Evidence - Stories Fri – Types of Evidence - Lists Math- Mon – 7.4 Equivalent Fractions Tues – 7.5 Simplifying Fractions Wed – 7.6 Compare Fractions (use common denominators) TH – 7.7 Line Plots Fri – Quick Quiz and Craft Reading - Next week we'll be starting our Historical Fiction unit. This week we'll wrap up some MStep prep, discussing different ways tests can ask the same question. For example, words like passage, text, selection, story, and article may be used to mean the same thing. Science - We are studying rocks! Students selected a special rock last week to study. This week students will identify minerals using a variety of features that make minerals unique. Students will also learn about different rocks like sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. We have one more week until Spring Break! Here are some important things you need to know for the last week of 3rd quarter! Monday is a half day and parent teacher conferences will be held Monday and Wednesday through the evenings. Check your conference time HERE. The Book Fair will be open during conferences. Our class will have time to shop on Tuesday. We do not have Media on Monday due to the half day (PM specials will be held in the morning.) There is a chapter 6 math test on Tuesday. The signed study guide is due on Tuesday. Students finished them in class today. The Quarter 3 test will be on Thursday. DTE Energy is coming to meet with 4th grade on Thursday afternoon. Your child will receive a kit (unless you opted out) to do some energy saving tasks at home. Please help your child complete the tasks. Our class could receive a mini grant of $100! There will be a Midwest states test on Friday. We've been traveling through our region learning about why we're called America's Heartland and America's Breadbasket. To celebrate the end of reading month and our country's independence, we'll have an Independence Day celebration. Please see this flyer for more details! The part you can see is getting smaller and smaller. Students will finish their Sun, Moon and Earth Sways this week and will complete a study guide for this unit. There will be a Sun Moon and Earth test on Monday 3/20. Social Studies: We've been writing letters to 4th graders in the 50 states as part of The Great Mail Race. The letters will be mailed this week and we look forward to learning more about life in each of the 50 states as we get responses. The kids have also learned a lot about writing letters and addressing envelopes. :) |
