Good morning! The class has shared some fun moon stories like finding the moon at unexpected times, and in unexpected places in the sky. This week you'll be able to see the moon at night and early in the morning. Tomorrow is a full moon! Moon calendars are due March 31. Parent teacher conferences are Thursday 3/24, Tuesday 3/29 and Thursday 3/31. I look forward to meet with each of you soon! Reading month is coming to a close. Tomorrow students will hear a story from a different terrific teacher. Tuesday is our read in! Students may wear pajamas, bring books from home and bring a stuffed animal to read with. Thursday will be our closing assembly and Friday will be movie and popcorn celebration for the end of a fantastic reading month. THANK YOU to all our mystery readers. The kids have had a blast guessing who is coming to read to them each day. Word Study - Review past sorts this week, next week new lists and tests Friday 4/1 Writing - Students are working on typing their informational books, adding text features and making their front and back covers. We'll have a writers celebration next week, probably Thursday. Math - We are reviewing fractions this week. The test on fractions is Wednesday, 3/23. Study Buddy slips are due tomorrow. The answers to the Study Buddy study guide can be found here! The Quarter 3 assessment will be Wednesday 3/30 and will cover Factors and Multiples, Measurement and Fractions. Reading - The class had an awesome debate about the Revolutionary War. Your child was either a Loyalist or a Patriot and tried to convince the opposing side of their stance. We found that the most persuasive arguments were either very creative ideas that we hadn't thought about before, or ideas that have solid evidence to back it up. Our next unit is Historical Fiction in which students will work in a book club to read historical fiction books. We will be reading Number the Stars together. Social Studies - We've been traveling through the Southeast region, learning about the culture, history and climate of the southeast. Today students will analyze the music of the southeast and next week students will hold a civil rights protest as we learn about the civil rights movement that grew from the southeast region. We will wrap up our tour of the southeast region this week. The southeast map test will be Thursday 3/31. Science - Next week we will wrap up the Sun, Moon and Earth unit with a demonstration of how we have seasons on earth. writing Courtney

Homework came home today that is due Wednesday and there will be another homework on Thursday, due on Monday. As always if your child is not able to complete the homework due to activities happening at home just write me a note or email letting me know when I can expect the homework to be turned in. It is not a problem at all! Reading - Students are thinking about what they're learning with the Revolutionary War and growing some theories about the war. We will use these theories to have a debate next week. Science - We will continue learning about the sun, moon and earth. Students are also researching about the sun, moon and earth in Media and creating a ThingLink to display their knowledge. Social Studies - We will begin our tour of the southeast region tomorrow! Students will learn about the southeast region's economy, geography, history, and other things that make this region unique. With each region there will be a map test, so students can start studying their maps now! Good afternoon, I just have a few quick mid-week updates to share. The word study test will be Monday due to the snow day. I understand the sky has been cloudy in the evenings so it's been hard to see the moon. We're expecting to have a new moon on the 8th, so the moon we see will be shrinking until then. This website and this website are some sources for you to see when to see the moon and what shape it should look like. Currently we can see the moon in the morning. Here's a picture I took this morning. Here is our conference sign up for spring conferences. This year spring conferences will be held with all families. |
