It is so great to be done with MStep testing and to be back in our normal routine. The class celebrated the end of MStep with a movie Friday afternoon. All students put forth their best effort and really seemed to try their best. Thank you to the Eldridge, Skellenger, Kavanaugh, Austin, Walkowski, Parker, Engelbert, and Steffens families for supplying snacks and gum for testing. The special treats made the kids' days brighter. The Gaga Ball arena was built this weekend and we had the opportunity to start playing today. See below for some pictures of (most of) our class playing this afternoon! Please continue to return permission slips for Pioneer Day and OU field trip. There are two half sheet permission slips for students to return and then a packet of information for chaperones to return. Permission slips, money and some supplies are due to school by June 1. We are on our last box of tissue! We could probably use 2-3 more boxes for the end of the year if you have any at home you're willing to send in. Thanks in advance! Word Study - The first 25 states test was taken today and also sent home in Monday folders. The 2nd 25 states list was also sent home today and the test for those states will be Tuesday, May 31. Writing - This week we will celebrate the hard work the students put into their literary essays. Math - This week is all about quadrilaterals, shapes with 4 sides. We will be taking a nature walk this week to see how soil is being formed by decomposing matter and how different soil is found a different depths to create layers.

This class has been ROCKING the MStep assessments. They are putting forth great effort during these long days. This week should be a bit more like normal with testing only on Tuesday and Wednesday. Field Trip information came home on Friday. There are a lot of papers to read and sign. The first packet is filled with student information. Please KEEP the top note handy (it gives dates and materials needed). You need to sign and return a volunteer sheet and BOTH permission slips (Pioneer Day and Oakland University). The second packet is only for parent volunteers. In order to chaperone, you need to have a current Criminal History (ICHAT) form – if you have already filled one out this year, you do not have to do it again. You will also sign the Chaperone Agreement Form and fill out a Driver Form if you can help drive on Pioneer Day. Please read over the materials and return the forms ASAP. Materials can be brought to school before June 1st. After you read the information, please let me know if you have additional questions. Here's what we have going on this week: Word Study: Students will receive a list of 25 states this week. The test will be on MONDAY. Next week students will get the list of the last 25 states. We will eat in the room after testing and then we will head out on our field trip. As soon as we return, the kids will go to Music. It will be a very different day! :) The Science Assembly for our class will be Friday 1:00-2:00. The Ann Arbor Hands On Science Center is coming to Paint Creek to do some hands on learning with our students! This week's schedule is a bit lighter due to testing. The state gives us suggested lengths for how long sessions will be, but it could take longer or shorter, so our regular day will be flexible. Word Study - We will review "No Excuse Words" for 4th graders Writing - Students will draft their literary essays and will also write their introduction and conclusion paragraphs.
