Lake Orion Penny Wars is happening this week! Friday - Our Hearts are in Math – To celebrate a wonderful Math Month, children will be allowed to bring their math related games (no electronics) to school on February 26th. Classroom teachers will give the children time to play their game and celebrate math! This year spring parent teacher conferences will be held with all families. Sign up here! Conferences are held Thursday, March 24, Tuesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 31. Scholastic book orders will be due this Friday. Our online code is GXPRM. Word Study - New lists this week, tests on Friday Writing - Revision and Editing - Each day this week students will learn a different way to revise their informational text. We will begin to publish on Friday. Math - Measurement test is this Wednesday. The Study Buddy slip is due by Wednesday. Here is the answer key to the practice packet! Our next unit is Fractions! Reading - This week students will continue to learn strategies to research from informational texts. We will look at some primary sources and discuss how we learn from these sources differently than books written more recently. Social Studies - We are wrapping up our study of the Northeast region this week. Students will be quizzed on the northeast map. Northeast scrapbooks are due on Thursday as well. Students have had plenty of time to complete these in class, but may finish up at home as needed. Science - We are now studying the sun, moon and earth. Students will receive a moon map this week to complete over the course of the next month.

Good afternoon! Heart to Heart School Store is open Wednesday and Friday mornings Our Hearts are in Math slips due each Friday Smencil Orders collected each Wednesday Bagel Orders collected each Thursday Box Tops collected through February 26 Science Discovery Night is this Thursday night, 6-8pm. The Valentine party is this Friday at 1:50 in the classroom! Students can bring in a decorated box and their valentines this week. Word Study - new lists came home this week, tests will be Friday! Writing - Students began drafting their first chapters in their informational books. Boy have we been learning a lot about the Revolutionary War! Students are choosing a structure to write their book that best teaches the subject they're writing about. Later students will add text features like maps, bolded words, timelines and pictures to enhance their work! Math - Last week students learned about the metric system of measurement and this week we'll study the customary system. There was a homework that came home today, due Wednesday. They are able to cross off one problem due to earning happy tallys throughout the day. Another short homework will come home Wednesday, due Friday. Reading - As students draft their informational books they find they need more information through research. In reading, students learn some more strategies for researching. Today we tried reading about history through the lens of who, where, or when. Thinking about one of those things while reading about history helps readers make sense of the events. Science - This week we will wrap up magnets and we will begin to learn about the sun, moon, and earth. When we return from break, students will be asked to keep a log of the moon for a few weeks at home (not each night, just when you can) about how it appears to change throughout the month. Social Studies - We have been traveling by imaginary train through the northeast region, learning about the history, economy and physical features that make this region unique. As we "travel" students are making a scrapbook of all our stops on our tour. Chapter 4 Study Buddy Answers Hello February! Writing - This week we will begin researching the Revolutionary War in both reading and writing. Students will write an informational text about a part of the Revolutionary War. Math - tomorrow is the Chapter 4 test. The Study Buddy coupon is the only thing that is needed back at school and the answer key is attached above. Measurement is next! We will study both metric and customary units of measuring length, capacity and weight. Cooking and baking at home are great activities to practice concepts learned in class. Reading - Students will use their nonfiction reading skills to learn about the Revolutionary War. Students will choose a subtopic to do more in depth research. Science - Students will learn about magnetic fields and sort magnetic and non magnetic objects. Social Studies - We will begin our tour of the Northeast region this week. As we tour each region, students will learn about their economy, culture, history, and natural features and how these details make each region unique.
