Holiday Party -- As you know, our Holiday Parties are scheduled for Thursday, December 17, from 1:50-2:35 pm. Our PTO has been very generous in donating cookies for these parties for many years. Being that we are a Peanut Aware school, we ask that no other treats be brought to parties other than frosting and sprinkles for the cookies. If students wish to hand out “goody bags” to their friends, we would like to be sure they are non-edible items – such as pencils, erasers, etc…
Scholastic Book Order -- I've already received some online orders from students for scholastic! Our online class code is GXPRM. If you would like to order, please do so by tomorrow! You can use the free book coupon through December 31. I can keep your books a secret and deliver them to you if you're planning to use them as holiday gifts. On a related note: the back ordered books from the book fair were delivered today, so your child should now have all their books from the book fair. Word Study -- New lists this week. Tests on Friday. Writing -- This week students are writing their evidence for their reasons. Today they wrote mini stories and will continue planning evidence in the form of lists, statistics and details. Math -- The class has come such a long way with division! Slowly but surely they've gained confidence in solving long division problems. We will wrap up our division unit this week with story problems. Today we talked about the meaning of remainders. Tomorrow students will practice writing an equation to solve a problem. We will review division the rest of this week with a practice packet coming home Thursday. The unit test will be Tuesday, December 15. Reading -- The students will begin mini research projects focused on wild weather. They will use their nonfiction reading strategies to organize what they learn, take notes, and teach others Social Studies -- We will wrap up our geography unit by studying the 5 regions of the United States and what makes them unique. Science -- We will continue to learn about current electricity and static electricity. |
