Good afternoon! There are MANY events happening in February. Please check out our calendar for some important dates! Scholastic book orders are coming home today. They are due February 6 so we can get Valentine orders in before Valentine's Day! Here's what learning will be happening this week! Word Study - New lists come home today -- tests will be Monday (there are 2 other tests on Friday) Writing - Students have been writing an informational book about a topic they are an expert on. Mon – Finish Publishing Tues – Review Transitions Wed – Review Sequence Paragraph TH – Practice Writing Sequence Paragraph Fri – Informational Book Celebration Math - We have been wrapping up the second quarter topics including prime and composite numbers. Mon – 4.11 Patterns Tues – 4.12 Patterns Wed – Chapter 4 Review Day 1 TH – Chapter 4 Review Day 2 Fri – Chapter 4 Test Reading - This week students will wrap up studying their type of extreme weather. They will create a poster and a Sway to teach others about that weather. Social Studies - We are wrapping up the Southeast region. Scrapbooks are due Thursday and there will be a quiz on Friday about the Southeast region (chapter 6) as well as the state quiz.

Good afternoon! What a wild few weeks we've had. Hopefully we'll be back to normal now.
Please remember to send outdoor clothes for days there is snow on the ground. (Soon I hope!) A paper recycling drive is happening soon, run by Student Council. Plan to bring in your recyclable paper/newspapers/magazines! Thank you for your support! Word Study - Tests tomorrow. New lists on Monday with tests on Thursday next week. Writing - Students have been writing informational books about a topic they're an expert in. They've learned how to write using text structures that nonfiction texts follow: sequence, description, compare and contrast, and cause and effect. Next week students will publish these books including text features and key vocabulary words. Math - Students will review division, multi-step word problems, comparison problems and algebra. The quarter 2 assessment will be on Tuesday 1/24 and then students will finish up learning prime and composite numbers to wrap up Chapter 4. Reading - Today students began to research their extreme weather type. They will continue to research their selected weather type. They'll work on their presentation in Media. Students will also participate in a Severe Weather Poster Contest to inform others about severe weather for National Severe Weather week in April. Social Studies - We are moving on to the Southeast Region where students will explore the history, culture, geography and economy of the southeast. Science - Our next unit will be Magnetism, which will begin in February. We are back for our first (and only) full week in January! A volunteer calendar is coming home today for January and February. Please sign up if you are interested in volunteering! Word Study: New lists this week, tests Friday Writing: We will be doing a mini informational book on a topic each child is an expert in. This is to prepare students for the informational book they will be doing soon where they will need to research first. Monday – Choosing a topic Tuesday –Teaching others to plan for drafting Wednesday – Draft a description chapter Thursday – Draft a sequence chapter Friday – Draft a compare and contrast chapter Math: Mon – 4.6 Reading Graphs Tues – Quick Quiz and 10 Marks Wed – 4.7 Multi-Step Story Problems TH – 4.8 Multi-step Story Problems Fri – 4.9 Multi-step Story Problems Reading: Students will be researching their type of extreme weather: tsunami, earthquake, flood, tornado, drought, or hurricane. Students will practice taking notes and teaching others about the weather. Social Studies: We have finished traveling through the Northeast Region, learning about the history, economy, culture and geography of the region. We will wrap up some big ideas early this week and continue to study the map of the Northeast region. Scrapbooks are due on Thursday. There will be a map test on Thursday. Students will need to know the states of the Northeast region. There will be a word box. Part of the student's scrapbook is a study guide for this map test. Working in a Hershey Chocolate Factory |
