Good afternoon!
Spring conferences will be held March 27 and 29. Please sign up HERE for your spring conference. Tomorrow is the last day of math month. To celebrate, we're having a game day! March is reading month! To help us celebrate “March is Reading Month,” we would like to invite parents (and grandparents or other special relatives) to be our mystery guest readers beginning at 12:45pm or 2:45pm for about 10-15 minutes. Bring along your favorite picture book (or two!) or read from a book in our classroom library. Mystery reader sign up can be found HERE. Please also email me with 3 clues. Wow! We've had lots of illnesses throughout the building these past few weeks. We've been disinfecting at school and encouraging hand washing. Please encourage hand washing at home and keep illnesses at home if your child is sick. Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study: new lists will come home tomorrow, tests on Friday. Writing: We are coming up on the end of our first Revolutionary War draft. On Wednesday students will make a decision to continue working on writing about the topic they’ve been studying, or change topics to write about. Mon – Drafting Chapter 1 Tues – Editing and Goal Setting Wed– Planning for Publishing TH – Note Taking Fri – Drafting Math: Mon – Perimeter and Area Quick Quiz and Review Day 1 Tues – Review Day 2 Wed– Chapter 5 Measurement Conversion and Perimeter and Area Test (packets due) TH – Perimeter and Area Performance Task Fri – Perimeter and Area STEAM Reading: We will continue to study the Revolutionary War. Students have been researching using primary sources and secondary sources. They synthesize what they're learning from multiple sources. Soon they will 'become' a Patriot or a Loyalist and participate in a debate. We will reflect on February reading goals and set March reading goals after analyzing their own in-class reading logs. Science: We are coming to the end of our sun, moon, and Earth unit. We will finish up with observing the phases of the moon. A Moon Phase Calendar will come home March 1 and will be due back March 31. Please help remind your child to check for the moon each day and record what the moon looks like each day. We'll be talking about the moon here at school and there will be times that we'll hunt for the moon when it's visible during the school day. There's an app called Sky Guide: View Stars Night or Day ($2.99) that's very helpful with finding stars, comets, satellites, planets and our moon.
