Happy Friday!
We have one more week until Spring Break! Here are some important things you need to know for the last week of 3rd quarter! Monday is a half day and parent teacher conferences will be held Monday and Wednesday through the evenings. Check your conference time HERE. The Book Fair will be open during conferences. Our class will have time to shop on Tuesday. We do not have Media on Monday due to the half day (PM specials will be held in the morning.) There is a chapter 6 math test on Tuesday. The signed study guide is due on Tuesday. Students finished them in class today. The Quarter 3 test will be on Thursday. DTE Energy is coming to meet with 4th grade on Thursday afternoon. Your child will receive a kit (unless you opted out) to do some energy saving tasks at home. Please help your child complete the tasks. Our class could receive a mini grant of $100! There will be a Midwest states test on Friday. We've been traveling through our region learning about why we're called America's Heartland and America's Breadbasket. To celebrate the end of reading month and our country's independence, we'll have an Independence Day celebration. Please see this flyer for more details! Please enjoy some comments from students about writing informational books. Good afternoon families! Thanks to everyone who sent snow gear with their kids today! There will possibly be snow on the ground all week, so kids will need coats, boots, snow pants, gloves and hats. Friends and Fun night is Wednesday, March 15 after school until 4:45. Permission slips were due today! Turn off the screen slips are due each Friday and students who turn them in are entered in a drawing for prizes. Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study: New lists coming home today. Tests Friday Writing: Monday – Self Assessment Tuesday – “Idea” Writing Wednesday – Type Idea Chapter Thursday – Editing and Informational Portfolio Friday – Finishing Touches Math: Mon – 6.4 Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions Tues – 6.5 Adding and Subtracting Mixed Numbers Wed– 6.6 Mixed Number Practice TH – Mixed Numbers Performance Tasks Fri – Quick Quiz #2 & 10 Marks & Practice Packet Catch-up Reading - Students will be planning their speeches for the Second Continental Congress debate. They'll gather evidence for either staying with England or becoming our own country. Science: We've seen the full moon this weekend so now the moon is waning. The part you can see is getting smaller and smaller. Students will finish their Sun, Moon and Earth Sways this week and will complete a study guide for this unit. There will be a Sun Moon and Earth test on Monday 3/20. Social Studies: We've been writing letters to 4th graders in the 50 states as part of The Great Mail Race. The letters will be mailed this week and we look forward to learning more about life in each of the 50 states as we get responses. The kids have also learned a lot about writing letters and addressing envelopes. :) 4th grade won the Greenest Grade competition! We will have a worms and dirt party on Friday! This week is spirit week! Tuesday - Hat Day Wednesday - Decades Day Thursday - Black and White and Red (Read) all over Day Friday - LO Dragon Spirit Day Turn off the screen slips are due each Friday in March Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study - New words coming home today. Tests on Friday Writing - This week is all about revising and bumping up their first drafts: Mon – Citing Sources Tues – Concluding Chapters Wed– Introduction and Transitions TH – Text Features Fri – Stories and Essays Books should be finished around Friday. We will edit and format next week. Math - Mon – 6.1 Sum of Fractions Tues – 6.2 Compare Fractions Wed– 6.3 Add Fractions TH – Fractions Activity Fri – Quick Quiz and 10 Marks Reading - Students will be taking a stance this week on if the colonists should go to war. Half the class will be Patriots and half the class will by Loyalists. They will come up with evidence to support their claim and we will have a debate at the end of the week. Science - We've been watching the moon for a week now and we've seen it gradually go from a New Moon to a First Quarter Moon. Students are going to make a Sway this week to teach others about the Sun, Moon and Earth. |
