Good afternoon! It's great to be back! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Here's what we're up to this week! Word study - new lists came home today. Tests Friday Writing - Monday and Tuesday students are finishing up gathering evidence for their essays. Wednesday students will 'glue' their essay parts together with transitions. Thursday and Friday students will type their essays. Throughout the process students have been focused on an individual goal that they chose. Some are focusing on spelling, elaborating, choosing more sophisticated words, etc. Math - Mon – 3.4 Review Place Value and Expanded Division Tues – 3.5 Short Cut Method Wed – 3.6 Short Cut Method TH – Quick Quiz and Games/Packet Catch up Fri – 3.7 Zeros in Quotient Reading - Students began reading their nonfiction books. This week students will learn things to do to preview a book before reading it as well as structures and challenges of nonfiction texts. Science - We're wrapping up static electricity this week and will review current electricity next week. There will likely be an electricity quiz next Friday.

Breakfast with Santa registration continues through November 22. Next week school is only in session Monday and Tuesday. Rocket Math practice sheets are collected whenever there is rocket math. I encourage students to say all the facts out loud and then complete the facts without being timed, OR timing themselves to see how long it takes to do all 40 problems. Here's what we're up to this week: Word Study - we are continuing to work with last week's words. Tests on those words will be this Friday. Writing - Tues – Deciding on a Thesis Statement Wed – Boxes and Bullets: Planning Reasons TH – Evidence: Mini-Stories Fri – Evidence: Lists **Kids will be presenting their Sway presentations to other classes next week. Students can revise/edit these at home via their Office 365 account. Math - Tues – 3.1 – Fact Family Division Wed – 3.2 – Place Value Sections Division TH – 3.2 Expanded Notation Division Fri – 3.3 Place Value or Expanded Notation Reading - Students are finding that nonfiction is truly all around them. Most of what adults read is nonfiction and the kids are realizing they too read a lot of nonfiction. We will begin to learn strategies for reading nonfiction with the goal of learning. Science - We are starting with current electricity this week and will explore how circuits work. No school tomorrow! Election Day! The book fair will run November 3-November 11 Monday, November 14 will be a half day due to parent teacher conferences. Conferences are held Monday 11/14 and Wednesday 11/16. Today we used Time for Kids to review the cause and effect text structure. This week students will learn strategies for reading nonfiction and we'll discuss how we read nonfiction differently than we read fiction. Science - Lighthouse construction! Wednesday 2-3. Thursday 2-3, Friday 1-2 YUM YUM! The people/classes that did the solar cooker project were Mrs. Kaump's class and also Mrs. Veeder's class.
The date of this event took place on October 19 2016 10/19/16. It took place at Paint Creek Elementary lake Orion Michigan. We used pizza boxes and tape, aluminum foil and Saran wrap. To make smores. It was sunny in the morning. Also, all day. Everybody was making there box then we set it outside to cook for the day! For 3 hours later we went out there no body smores cooked in the box! These were our interviews. 'How did your marshmallow go''? Nick asked. Gage said, ''mine did not cook because it was not in the sunlight''.'' How did your marshmallow go?'' Braden asked. Caden said, 'Mine did not cook because the tree was blocking a lot of sunlight''. SPAGHETTI TOWER CHALLENGE
Mrs. Bronczyk and Mrs. Kaump's classes got together and did the spaghetti tower challenge. We are making spaghetti towers with 20 spaghetti sticks, a yard of string, tape, also 1 marshmallow. On Thursday October 13th it took place In Mrs. Kaumps room and Mrs. Bronczys room. This is what went on during the spaghetti challenge. We have to try to make them stand without holding or leaning and try to make them tall. We had 18 minutes to make it as tall as we can and then they measure. We only had 2 winners that stood 1 in Mrs. Bronczyks and Mrs. Kaumps. Now this is what some people thought about it. "I think it was really fun to work with my brothers class." Reagan reported. This is what carly thought, "A lot of people were helping each other." Carly said. Now that is what they liked most. This blog was reported by Sienna, Addison and Isabella. Strong Writers
Kaumps, Veeders, Parents, books and kids Were all involved. The date was 10/12/16 The classrooms were Kaumps and Veeders. We first got are food and went to our groups to read our stories. Then we ate our food while we were reading our stories. After that we wrote our complements and there was a lot of grown ups and parents. Finally the Veeders went back to their classroom and then the parents went home. Also, the kaums went back to learning. Interviews AJ was our first interview and the question was what did you like about the celebration? His answer was the food. Our second interview was Braeden and our question for Braeden was what was your favorite thing was about the writing celebration? We were in Kaumps class, Kuamp's class was involved Miss Tossey too. We wrote a scary story that we made up. We drew pictures. It was really fun we got to share are Halloween stories. We had lots of fun making them. We asked Camiri did you have fun making the story "yes, because there is spooky paper." We asked Brett what is your story about? Brett said, "this kid was brave and wasn’t scared of anything but the hunted house down the street." |
